Why Worry Will Make You Question Everything

Have you ever been called a “worry wart?” If you haven’t, I’m sure you’ve heard the phrase. It could be your worrisome grandmother always checking on you. Or, it could be you are worried about your sick child.

Whatever the worry, know this: it doesn’t have to consume you. If you allow it, worry will let you question everything…especially the good.

I used to “worry” so much that the doctor once prescribed me pills to mask it. Both my addiction to alcohol and my disconnection with God were culprits to my extreme anxiety and worry.

Even still, worry came along long before alcohol did; the alcohol only heightened my worry.

That nagging, uncomfortable feeling of worry still catches me off guard even today though my heart has done a complete 180. I must defend myself against such atrocity and this in an ongoing process. Trust me when I say my shield is the Word of God.

Worry enhanced everything wrong about my life, and it prevented any good from entering. The devil was getting exactly what he wanted. He most definitely held me prisoner.

Worry – anxiety – depression, all of these ferocious ailments zapped my life of any joy and made life unbearable. Worry is a tactic by the enemy to keep you in confusion and misery. With today’s day and age, that’s not hard to do.

Extreme worry or average worry, worry is worry, and it will make you question everything good.

The devil wants us to be in a state of confusion. Worry is the perfect solution for him to achieve his mission. On the hand, worry is not so good on us.

It’s easy to want to resort to worry when circumstances have us on edge, I mean we are human and the battle of flesh versus spirit is constant. When things aren’t measuring up the way we think they should our feeble little minds start to stray from God’s truth.

Take note: God’s ways are not our ways. We don’t always have to question everything. Sometimes we just have to “be still.”

He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” – Psalm 46:10

We must resist the flesh and press into God. It is in these times we are tempted to worry, to stress, and as a result we take it out on everyone around us.

And you don’t want to be THAT guy,( or gal).

At the height of my stress epidemic, I fed my anxieties and my fear with alcohol which in turn only made them worse! I then had my conscious to deal with and waking up each morning with guilt only led to more anxiety.

I was one sorry, mulled up mess. I started to question my worth and this in return affected everything in my life.

Worry caused me to question EVERYTHING about me, my life, which direction to take, who to turn to. It was only when I was brought to my knees in reverence to God that my journey to healing began.

Jesus sums it up better than any pill or drug….

Consider how the wild flowers grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 28 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today, and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, how much more will he clothe you—you of little faith! 29 And do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it. 30 For the pagan world runs after all such things, and your Father knows that you need them. 31 But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well.” - Luke 12:27-31

But I get it. I’ve been there .It’s a lot easier said than done when you feel so mixed up from life itself and it’s hard to see the light.

Don’t give up. There’s a battle for your heart and soul going on in the spiritual realm and you must pray, trust, and be still. Even when you don’t see a solution to your worry or your problems, trust that God does. He already has a solution to your problems.

If God who is a Good God already sees the future and is perfect and all-knowing, don’t you know he has the perfect solution to your problems? If we would only believe. God desires for you to have a good ending, and He will get all the glory. The bigger your dilemma the more God’s great work for his chosen people can shine!

Stop worrying, stop questioning and be still and know that He is God. That’s what God wants from you. Don’t give in to the enemy’s plan to attack your mind with worry and fear.

No more questions. Just Believe.

The following is an exert from my devotional Finding Hope in a Turbulent World: A Ninety-Day Devotional.

I am your soul comforter and provider, and you shall have no fear, for My son has overcome the world on your behalf! Even so, the world will try to come against you, for since the days of Adam and Eve, you reside in a broken world full of disbelief and pain and sorrow. If you choose to call on My name, I will never disappoint you, for I have your best interest in mind, and I know what the future holds for you as you abide in My Truth and in My Word. Your feelings, however, and your perception of the world around you often become tainted by the enemy working against you to alter the path I have made before you. You must learn to discern the truth and turn away from every evil thing. My child, choose the straight and narrow path, for if you choose to go down the path so traveled by many, you will often get diverted from your destiny. Choose a path less traveled so that others may see clearly the direction you are headed and so they might want to follow you. The storm is always on the horizon, waiting to throw you off course, but where there is a storm, there is always a shelter. You must decide to make the lead way for your protection before the storm starts. I love you, child.

“For life is more than food, and the body more than clothes.” - Luke 12:23
