Finding Hope in: Seeking God First
But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord. (Joshua 24:15)
With life’s complexities, it is increasingly difficult to hear God’s voice. We must commit that we will choose to serve the Lord and not submit to the ways of the world so that God’s voice remains dominant in our lives. Making a commitment to serve the Lord will make it more difficult for the enemy to deceive us through worldly devices because our eyes are focused on the beholder of the Truth. There are two ways we can serve the world: either through God’s ways, which produce much fruit in preparation for the coming kingdom, or through the enemy’s way, which causes us to serve false ideologies that lead to destruction. Choose now whom you will serve. Choosing to serve the Lord will make straight the path to righteousness.
There are in this world many paths that you can take. You are ultimately the decision maker, but I am the Way, the Truth, and the Light. It is in your best interest to choose to serve Me first above all else so that your decisions are made right. The world entices you with its outward appearances, but I do not have to entice you because I Am. Who I Am is the God of the universe; without Me, your decision will be in vain. Choose now, and commit to My ways so that day by day, through each of your many journeys, the world seems less enticing as you come to experience My presence, which produces for you an eternal glory incomprehensible to the false ways of the world.
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. (Matthew 6:33)
Prayer for the Day
Heavenly Father, often the weight of the world gets to me, and I lose sight of Your plan. There are so many temptations in this world, and I desperately need Your help in seeking You first above all else. Please provide me with the strength to not idolize worldly things; instead, instruct me into a new habit of devotion and prayer each and every day. Help to appreciate Your gift of love and share this with others. Thank You, Jesus. In Jesus’s name, I pray. Amen. - Exert from Finding Hope in a Turbulent World: A 90-Day Devotional
