Finding Hope in: Holiness

I am the Lord your God; consecrate yourselves and be holy, because I am holy. Do not make yourselves unclean by any creature that moves along the ground. I am the Lord, who brought you up out of Egypt to be your God; therefore be holy, because I am holy. (Leviticus 11:44–45)

Holiness is a virtue that few find in a world that is unclean and works effortlessly to destroy our God-given destinies into the likeness of Christ. We must therefore strive continuously to become like our Maker and as we do, He brings to our awareness the things that are unclean in our lives. We cannot begin to imagine the holiness that awaits us on the other side, but we must begin our journey now, as we become closer and closer to our final destination. In the process of our journey, we soon find that we crave to be like our Maker, who is pure and just—characteristics that are so lacking in this world—but each time we make an effort to rid any uncleanness, we are watering our seeds that, at just the right time, will bud and thrive.

My holy scripture instructs you on the way to go, but your ears are so often attuned to what the world is saying. Strive to be holy, and you will soon see the fruit of your efforts. You must learn intently on how to hear My voice, though it may seem impossible to hear what you do not see; your lack of belief is what quiets My voice. I tell you in My Word the way you should go and that you should meditate on it day and night, but how can you listen to something that you don’t believe? Consecrate yourselves, and be holy so that My Truth is revealed to you in terms you will easily understand.

They disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, in order that we may share in his holiness. (Hebrews 12:10)

Prayer for the Day

Dear Father, it can be hard sometimes to be holy in a distressed world, but help me to strive to be more like You every day. Teach me Your ways, oh Lord, and help me to reject anything that is not pleasing in Your sight. I come boldly to Your throne, and I humble myself before You. In Jesus’s name, I pray. Amen.
